Lyric Hughes Hale is Director of Research at Hale Strategic. She has assisted multinational organizations with global strategic planning and cross-national communications for more than thirty years.  A problem solver and creative team leader, she works with clients to conduct research as well as identity external partners to meet organizational goals, navigating challenging regulatory, technological, and cultural environments. Projects include work in the quickly evolving sectors of technology, finance, healthcare, and infrastructure globally, but with a special focus on Japan, China, and Australia.
As editor-in-chief of EconVue, Ms Hale publishes a monthly newsletter and The Hale Report, a podcast featuring guests with expertise in international affairs and economics. She co-authored “What’s Next?” for Yale University Press in 2011, and her writing has appeared in publications such as the Financial Times and Foreign Affairs.
A noted speaker, Ms. Hale has addressed audiences at the World Economic Forum, the Brookings Institution, the Foreign Correspondent’s Club in Tokyo, the National Press Club of Australia, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, as well as Stanford, Northwestern, Harvard, and the University of Chicago. She was founder of the pathbreaking daily publication China Online from 1998-2003, providing China business news in English on the web. Ms Hale bought the rights and produced the first telecast of the Super Bowl in China in 1986 and was a pioneer of foreign advertising in China, working with 300 Chinese media outlets including the People’s Daily and CCTV.
Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, Ms. Hale served as CEO of Hughes International. The company developed market entry strategies and created and managed multilingual print and broadcast campaigns for technology-focused companies such as Hughes Aircraft, Microsoft, Hitachi, Motorola, AT&T, and Apple in Asia. During that time, she co-founded Women in International Trade, now a worldwide organization, to help entry-level women pursue careers in global business.
Ms. Hale studied at Northwestern University and graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. She has studied six languages and has lived in Europe, Japan, and Iran, and first went to China in 1979.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Association for Asian Studies, American Economic Association, the Australian American Leadership Dialogue, and the Bretton Woods Committee. She is mother to a blended family of five children and lives in Chicago.
